As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 24,448 and the density of 50.36 persons per km². The total area is 529.12 km². Fukagawa is a small but vibrant city most known for its plentiful rice fields and apple and cherry orchards in Otoe, a township to the south of the downtown area.
